#TakeActionTuesday: Women’s Equality Day is this Friday and we are thrilled to be joining our National Partner TIAA in their movement to #RetireInequality for good. Throughout the year we have recognized the 50th Anniversary of Title IX and the tremendous work towards equality but we know we’re not done yet. Women today retire with 30% less income than men, which is why @TIAA is helping women work towards their retirement goals. Hear from WSF Friend and Collegiate Softball Coaching legend Carol Hutchins, who has joined forces with TIAA, as she encourages young women, particularly athletes, to take hold of their financial futures. #TheEquityProject #TitleIX50 Your Turn: Here are four tips to help you retire on your own terms and timeframe. 1. Contribute to your workforce retirement plan - take advantage of the retirement plan your employer offers (401K, 403b, etc.) If you’re already making contributions, consider increasing your amount, even an additional 1% helps. 2. Create a lifetime income stream - on average, women tend to live longer than men so their savings need to last longer in retirement. A lifetime income stream like an annuity provides a guaranteed income for life, think of it as creating your own pension plan. 3. Define what retirement means to you - chances are your vision of retirement looks different from generations before you, maybe you want to travel or maybe you want to continue a side-hustle that you enjoy or consult. Retiring well is about having a game plan, and it pays to start that plan now. 4. Learn more about managing your finances by visiting TIAA.org.
