Originally imported to France from ancient China and cultivated there by Josephine Bonaparte, it was then cultivated by Lucia Mocenigo, a Venetian noblewoman, in the Mocenigo residence at Alvisopoli near Venice, in whose rose garden it has continued to bloom for more than two hundred years.
