Traveling and fueling are always a challenge.
NOTE: NO FOOD ADVICE. ❤️
While in Philly, I promised myself that I'd do better about getting in enough fuel. I am VERY hit or miss with it some days. As a busy girl with ADHD, it is easy for me to forget to eat on time. The beauty of powerlifting is that it increases my appetite/metabolism just a bit more than my marathon training. Running has the opposite effect on me, and then I get delayed munchies. Finding harmony and good food on the go is a challenge. This was one of the few times where I was able to nail most of it while in another city.
Although my French toast was amazing, I'm quickly realizing that I'm not much of a traditional American breakfast girlie outside of grits and eggs. This training cycle is teaching me that I'm responding better to eating light at the start of the day, heavier around lunch, and weaving in snacks before dinner.
Days Prior: I struggle with meeting my carbs some days, and it results in having a whole carb attack once every two weeks 🙃. This time, I decided to take on some of my hubby's faves like a burger and chicken sandwiches. It was hard to finish the fries. I love beet salads, but they don't love me prior to workouts. In turn, I had it on a rest day. GERD reduces some of my options most days. In turn, fish, chicken, and lean meats are mostly my friends. Some items like fish and pork tacos were great until I had to use the bathroom.
Powerlifting Meet: I had a light salad with scrambled cheese eggs, smoked salmon, mixed melons, and a fat-free strawberry yogurt. During the event, I had trail mix with water and electrolytes. Post event, I went to the Wawa and had an Italian meat sandwich with a salad, watermelon, chocolate milk, and water. For dinner, I had the salmon with gnocchi and sweet pea soup with a hard cider.
Duathlon: I started my day with an electrolyte mix, banana, and nuts. Post event (late brunch), my hunger kicked in hard. I had eggs, sausage, a mixed green salad from the hotel buffet, fruit, coffee, and yogurt. This held me over until the evening, and I had steamed chicken and broccoli with white rice in a light serving of garlic sauce.
What works for you?
