wanted to share some more of jaimie [ j breezy] branch, and share a poem I wrote for her last week. jaimie is/was one of my only role models; I looked up to her so much, and it seemed like she brushed away that notion, silently, with actions, because for jaimie, everyone was equals. I still hope to be like her when I ~grow~ I’m lucky I got to see a side of her most people didn’t, thanks to @mr.desktop introducing us (because duh he knew we were kindred spirits). when we first met we recorded a song in red hook and I felt like she played trumpet similar to how I did vox. Raw. jaimie was the kind of person who played with literally the best jazz musicians in the world, and is an actual jazz legend, yet when we started nu jazz with fresh faces, nobodies in the jazz scene, she immediately came through and jammed with us, and played our first show with us, as soon as I hit her up. That was her style, she just wanted to jam with like-minded people, didn’t matter about anything else. I hope to always carry on that attitude, and passion for making music. I’ll always miss her wisdom. I’ll always remember there’s no messing up in jazz. I’ll always remember you can do things your own way. I have loved seeing and hearing what everyone has shared about her since her passing, seeing how many people she’s touched (ofc). I hate that it’s true that the most influential, larger than life people go early. it’s crazy how much death softens the heart. There’s no time for pettiness and bullshit. Much love to you all <3 keep flying, jaimie.
