Just a simple statement, inspired by my friend @lagusta.
My grandmother was forced to flee Germany in 1933, Austria in 1939, and England in 1942. She survived Kristallnacht and the Blitzkreig. She was a refugee of the Holocaust for most of her childhood. Today, a government that claims to act in her memory—and on my behalf—is inflicting the same pain, and worse, on millions of children. There is no excuse, or justification. We are not entitled to violence because we are victims of it. It is the opposite: our history is what obligates us to compassion.
