@thebigquiet is heading on a 5 city tour (at 5 iconic locations) & man am I pumped. Fun fact: I’ve been touring w/ The Big Quiet (& writing for our IG) since 2018. Before TBQ was @mediclubmediclub which (founder of both) @jessisrael started as a way to bring community together to talk about the things we don’t usually get the space to discuss. Medi Club was my entry point, & the first Medi Club I ever went to — I didn’t know a soul. I had so much anxiety, that I foreal almost didn’t go in. At that point in my life I didn’t have many friends in NYC, didn’t know what a sound bowl was, & had just broken up w/ my boyfriend. I didn’t have a meditation practice & was real worried that I wouldn’t fit in. Awas fresh out of grad school and feeling super burnt out & disconnected from my life in the art world. I wondered how people even met friends. Being a part of a community, or finding my "tribe”, didn't feel like it was in the cards for me. But I kept showing up — I kept pushing through the fear & anxiety. Slowly, people started to recognize me & I started to recognize them. I started anxiously sweating less & laughing more. The more I went to these shared experiences, the more I realized how many others were like me: solo w/ a hunger for community & connection. Alone or not, we ALL kept showing up to be a part of something bigger than ourselves. 7 years later, It’s an honor to give back to a community that has changed my life. Hearing ppl’s story’s, meditating & sharing vulnerably w/ friends (& strangers) has cracked open my heart. Its given me friends. Showing up in service has given me confidence, a sense of purpose & helped me to feel empowered. Giving myself to Medi Club & The Big Quiet helped me to find myself — I hope that anyone that comes to any of our tour stops feels even an inch of that.
