Countdown to Miss University of Alabama!! I am so excited to announce that I will be competing for Miss University of Alabama this Saturday, September 14th! Over the next week I will be participating in Miss University of Alabama’s social media challenge and sharing some more about myself, my time at UA, and the Miss America Organization!! I am currently a Junior majoring in Chemistry and minoring in Biology and Social Innovation and Leadership through Robert E. Witt University Fellows Experience. I hope to apply to medical school and eventually pursue a career in Pediatric Neurology. During my time at UA I have had incredible opportunities to gain hands-on experience in my career field while working through my coursework in the Natural Sciences. This past summer I had the opportunity to work under a Pediatric Neurologist specializing in movement disorders at Children’s Hospital of Alabama, and see firsthand the work of a physician. I also have the opportunity to work as an undergraduate researcher in the Summers Lab, a chemical engineering laboratory at UA that works to metabolically engineer bacteria and yeast cells to produce chemicals, fuels, and pharmaceuticals. Through the University Fellows Experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge on the challenges of low income communities and how social determinants of health can be addressed on the systematic level. This has led me to develop College Ready Marion, a career readiness curriculum for students in the Black Belt of Alabama, which myself and a team of other honors college students presented over 3 weeks while living and working in Marion, Alabama. My education at UA has developed in me a soft heart and a critical mind, and a unique set of skills and knowledge that will serve me well both here and in next chapter! I can’t wait to share even more in the coming days! The competition will be held at the Bama Theatre at 7pm.
