I have been silent for a while because I wasn’t sure what to say. I check nearly every box of privilege there is and I’ve felt that makes me so unqualified to speak on these matters. So many friends and others have expressed their thoughts in ways I never could—especially those who are not in a place of privilege and have experienced racism and hate and discrimination first-hand. But it would be wrong for me to stay silent. It breaks my heart that things have continued on this long and have gone this far and so many lives have been ruined and lost because we couldn’t take the time and effort to address and fix these issues that are embedded so deeply in our society and country. I will be an ally and a supporter and a friend wherever I can. I will vote and donate and listen and learn and use the little voice I have for good.
