The Prince of Wales’s official spokesman has said that “racism has no place in our society” after William’s godmother resigned from the royal household for asking a charity’s black chief executive where she “really came from”.⁠ ⁠ The domestic abuse campaigner, Ngozi Fulani, 61, was attending a reception hosted by the Queen on Tuesday at Buckingham Palace to mark the United Nations’ 16 days of activism against gender-based violence. ⁠ ⁠ Fulani said Lady Susan Hussey, 83, brushed her hair aside to read her name badge and began questioning her about “which part of Africa” she came from.⁠ ⁠ When Fulani told her she was from Hackney in north London, she says Hussey — who was lady-in-waiting to the late Queen and made lady of the household by the King — replied: “No, but where do you really come from?
