Aaah! Ossie Clark... the only designer whose graceful, gently sexual clothes from the early ‘70’s that I still cannot part with. The famous David Hockney painting of the designer and Celia Birtwell, his talented wife, has been on my wall since it served as the programme to the first Ossie show. Now - at last! - a display of the the duo’s work will take place in Italy this autumn in Prato Textile Museum and then in Milan with Fondazione Sozzani. Ossie Clark died so young, yet the legacy he left of that fashion moment between the end of the go-go, sexy ‘sixties and the romantically confused ‘seventies marked a generation. Have I kept those clothes with their layers of floating fabrics with soft drapes? I have never let them go ......
