Edouard Taufenbach & Bastien Pourtout: “It often begins with a shared curiosity. Sometimes it becomes obsessive, and it is then a matter of inventing protocols to structure this new interest. For example, in 'The Blue of the Sky', we took over 100,000 photos of swallows. We then had to invent matrices to sort and organise these images and thus recompose skies and trajectories.” (in STIR) (Dutch ⤵️)

Bastien Pourtout and Edouard Taufenbach have been working together since they met at a photography fair in 2018, but it was during a residency at the Villa Medici in Rome when they truly became an artistic duo. During this two-month residency, they created the 'Le bleu du ciel’ ('The Blue of the Sky') project about the flight of swallows, which was on show in the booth of @AlmanaqueFotografica during Unseen. In 2020, they received the Swiss Life Prize for this project, which was exhibited at in various museums and galleries and in Arles for the Rencontres photo exhibition. Using different cameras (digital reflex, mobile phone or Rolleiflex), they produce photographs to be arranged, associated, and circulated like messages from one to the other — a whole visual language. Explore more work from the booth on @GalleryViewer [unseen.galleryviewer.com].
