It’s World Prematurity Day - a day to increase awareness of preterm births globally. Every year, 15 million babies are born premature worldwide. More than one million of these babies do not survive and many more face lifelong challenges. The trauma of delivering your baby well before their time is very real and all consuming. I understand this all too well having given birth prematurely twice. The roller coaster doesn’t end the moment your baby graduates from neonatal intensive care. The hyper-awareness and anxiety become constant companions as you remain vigilant, monitoring your child’s health and developmental milestones... Ready to seek the necessary interventions at the first sign of trouble. Both my miracle babies have faced their own unique set of challenges over the years - some challenges more difficult than others. Each challenge is often a reminder of their dramatic start to life. World Prematurity Day is about more than just awareness for us, it’s a day to celebrate all those babies born fighting. We live each day with immense gratitude for how far we’ve come - grateful for the village who supported us along the way. Every health care professional, every teacher, every counsellor, our family and friends who dropped everything just to be there. Thank you will never be enough. Please head over to @miraclebabiesfoundation to learn how you can support premature babies and their families. Every little bit helps. 💖☮️🙏
