The Squat:
It may be important to understand an exercise from start to finish. This video provides a generic breakdown of one particular squatting movement.
Variation: Barbell Back Squat
Step 1: Unracking the load. Keep the feet hip width and underneath the body. The bar is placed behind the head in the middle of the shoulder line. Stand up straight to lift bar off the hooks. Take one or two steps back to align.
Step 2: Positioning. Emphasis on the feet and knees. Screw the feet into the floor. Drive the knees outward slightly. Sit back. Like sitting down in a chair.
Step 3: Reracking the load. Step toward the rack with both feet. Keep feet underneath the body. Ensure bar is over the catch hooks, and lower the weight using a bend at the hips and knees. Keep the body even during a lowering phase.
