Story time, @burningman, pt 1. Another post w/all the beautiful people I love 4ever later ❤️ (pardon bad iPhone pics) ✨#sunriseTavern So...few things genuinely surprise me, I thought I’d kind of seen it all at this point in life. Enter #BlackRockCity, a circus of 80,000 from *all over the world*, setting up camp in the middle of f’ing nowhere desert, in unwavering, hostile conditions of 105+ degree heat & sometimes complete whiteout sandstorms, unable to see but a foot, maybe two around you. Burning Man has been “an event” I’ve wanted to go to for decades, but it came just when it should. It’s difficult to sum in even a few posts, it’s maybe the closest you’ll get to being unplugged from the #Matrix, or #MadMax on steroids. It’s raw, radical human experience & self-expression. It’s humanity — to see people share their services & knowledge for free, simply happy to pass along their gifts creates a world unlike any other, & everyone there a testament to human fortitude. In a photo you’ll see my brother’s symphony playing for an audience that biked through gusting, whiteout sandstorm to appreciate a musical experience. Being in a hostile desert environment w/o the smallest conveniences is a reminder of what our planet will be like if we continue on the way we have.. It’s bc the environment is so challenging that it makes the enormous task/radical teamwork of BM so marvelous. The large art carts, sculptures, camps that stretch 7 miles from your own, it’s that big & almost beyond comprehension how so much is transported to this one spot in the middle of nowhere. Also, a major principle of Burning Man is leave no trace. I’ve never been so impressed. Typical festivals/gatherings this size end up completely trashed in a matter of hours. I didn’t see even a single cigarette butt on the ground afterwards for a week or traces of water, which is illegal to dump on #Paiute land. Utmost respect to others, whether it’s consent (“anything but a fuck yes is a NO!”) or just as a human to another human at, truly, the largest party in the world.
