Raise a glass to Dale Chihuly! The #MADCollection artist was born #otd in 1941. In 1968, after receiving a Fulbright Fellowship, Chihuly went to work at the Venini glass factory in Venice. The relationship Chihuly and other American artists developed with the Venetian glass maestros allowed them unprecedented access to the previously closed world of Venetian glassmaking. This unique experience greatly influenced Chihuly's glass-blowing technique throughout his career. It was also influential when the artist opened the Pilchuck Glass School, helping to elevate glassblowing to the level of fine art.
