Conventional music production wisdom constantly kills great ideas and prevents artists and producers from stepping into their full power. If you’re making music outside of the classic old school team of artist, producer, engineer, programmer, assistant, and even maintenance, office, and runners on the crew, you might not realize just how overwhelming it is trying to do everything at once. Mixing is a critical stage of every great record (and I do a LOT of it!) so i suggest you develop the habit of leaving the mixer brain switched off while you’re writing and producing. Just keep your balance in a good spot with faders and you’ll be golden. If you have an idea for extreme / dramatic creative processing, absolutely go for it in the production phase - but if you find yourself fiddling with tiny subtle details it’s an indication you’ve gone off track. I could talk about this stuff for hours, (and I do in a couple of my formal programs I offer) but let me know if unpacking this further on a platform like this is a vibe, or if trying to raise a nuanced point on social media is sheer folly 😂
