Take a little break and join me on a shoot with sperm whales, one of my favorite animals to photograph. As the second-deepest diver on Earth, sperm whales can reach depths of over 7,000 ft and spend much of their lives hunting for squid in complete darkness. They play a critical role in cycling nutrients and absorbing carbon as they traverse the ocean, following the lead of their wise and beloved matriarch. This is why protecting marine corridors and interconnected waterways is so important for preserving marine life. Ocean animals, especially whales, rarely stay in one place and need safe spaces to travel through.
