When I was a teenager I moved out to transition away from my neighborhood. I was living in the Bronx with @gloriadiana77 💗 who helped me figure out what I was going through and gave me a safe space to find myself. Every week my mother would troop to the Bronx from Sunset Park, BK to bring me a shopping cart full of groceries. We often met half way on the train since it was so far away. While shooting a video portrait of her for a film project I’ve been working on she began reminiscing on that moment in our lives. It became track 08 ‘Shopping Cart’ on my album HI-DEF FEMME. For me it shows what unconditional love & acceptance looks like. At the time my mother couldn’t understand what it was I was going through but all she ever wanted was to see me shine and she made sure we got there <3 #HiDefFemme
