📼 book review 📼 MY BEST FRIEND’S EXORCISM ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 “I love you, Gretchen Lang. You are my reflection and my shadow and I will not let you go. We are bound together forever and ever!” My second Grady Hendrix book and it did not disappoint! I just loved Abby and Gretchen’s friendship and all the 80s nostalgia (the first 50 pages or so had me cracking up). One of the things I love most about his books is that they will make you laugh, cry, and scream out in terror, sometimes all in one chapter. For a good chunk of the book, after Gretchen first starts acting weird, it actually gets pretty sad (and this part started to drag a little for me). Abby really only has one true friend, so when Gretchen suddenly wants nothing to do with her, and when no one believes her that something is wrong, it’s heartbreaking. Abby is torn between trying to get her friend back and wanting to cut her losses and try to move on with her life because the former is too painful. Then it gets way gross and dark. The tapeworm... 🤢 Good Dog Max 🥺 And in all of that you will also laugh, like when Abby starts shouting, “By the power of the Dust Bunny and in the name of the Go-Go’s I compel you, begone!” It got so bleak that I was actually pretty worried if I was going to enjoy the book but man. That ending 🥹 What really got me was how it was Abby’s love for Gretchen and all of their shared wonderful memories, going all the way back to Abby’s ET themed skate party, that was the most powerful thing of all. Not God or a bodybuilder exorcist, but the enduring friendship between these two girls. Get ready to break out the tissues. “You were the only thing I could hear and I was drowning, and you reached down and you pulled me out.” 💙💜 PS I also enjoyed the Amazon Prime movie! But the book is better 😉 Have you read MBFE or is it on your TBR?
