#BurningMan, story time pt 2: How I Got to Burn. These grip brothers, @mmm_chiuee and @4thear , who I know from separate jobs didn’t know each other prior to the playa, but were the reason I got to BRC. Both offered a ticket weeks prior that were snatched up before I could even respond. By a twist of Fate, two days before Burning Man began, I received two separate texts that arrived green... 10.5 hours away from me, these two grip bois who hadn’t known each other ended up being in the same camp, and when they got wind of an extra ticket, said out loud, “My friend Janice has been looking for a ticket!” They turn to each other, “Wait, you know Janice?!“ Two texts came from each, both saying to the effect, “I won’t have cell service soon, but can you make it?” I screamed in my texts “YES!” and then got a vague “Ticket will be in your name at will call,” no other instructions on what to bring or a name to the camp, left only with ambiguous coordinates of the camp. I arrived at 2 am Tuesday morning with no idea where to find these two people, cell service nonexistent, circled around in the dark for half an hour exhausted from driving all day, & knowing I’d never find my camp in the dark as a baby Burner, resigned myself to sleeping in my car until light. Woke up an hour later to find a porto, walked maybe 100 feet & ran into somebody stumbling into a camp & on a blind hope asked “Do you know Edwin?” “No.” “Chiu?” “Yeah! follow me.” And in our tented commons space, I found Edwin lying on a couch across from the one in this photo. He opened his eyes as I passed by and my Burn began. 😂🔥 & another wonderful coincidence that tickled me — before leaving civilization, I sent a text to my brother saying I’d be there, relaying the very vague coordinates I was given 😂 The entire week almost passed and I thought to myself “Okayyy hermano, I get it, too cool for your sister.” My brother received the text I had sent from civilization on day 5, biked around for an hour to each camp until he found a group of my beautiful Sunrise folks up to no good 😈 who got him & his girl to leave me a message on the whiteboard. The lack of cell phone service is an adventure in itself.
