'Coastal Spirit,' day 71 of ‘75 Days of Fine Art’ / As tempted as I was to grab a telephoto lens to zoom in on this spirit bear, an incredibly rare and beautiful sight, I chose instead to focus on the story of the old-growth forests of British Columbia. Ecosystems like the Great Bear Rainforest often fall victim to senseless logging, erasing centuries of evolution’s most delicate work and leaving nothing but sterile soil. This was my chance to reveal one of the many evolutionary wonders at stake within these rich habitats. Spirit bears have long been kept safely tucked from poaching and the public view by First Nations leaders like @gitgaatspirit @douglas_neasloss. But without ancient forests, these animals would no longer roam the coasts, and Canada’s wild heart would be lost. We need more storytellers using their images to protect our planet and hold powerful industries accountable for their crimes against nature— which is why I will be teaching you everything I know in my photography masterclass.
