The Black Genome Project partnered with Black Girls Do Stem to put on a field trip at the McDonnell Genome Institute, and it was a blast!
Students had the chance to get hands-on experience with genomic medicine, from extracting and looking at their own DNA to learning how a DNA sequencing machine collects data about the human genome. They also got a tour of the Genome Institute’s Data Center, which is pictured above. Finally, students and parents had the opportunity to have their portraits taken by the brilliant photographer Adrian Octavius Walker.
Thank you to our community partner, Black Girls Do STEM and the McDonnell Genome Institute and Washington University for making this field trip possible!
