Wei is known for his intimate portraits of both others and himself, as well as his poetic landscapes and still-life photography. His work has been exhibited internationally in institutions including the Museum of the City of New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Power Station of Art in Shanghai, the Hasselblad Foundation in Göteborg and the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago. His work was included in the collections of the MoMA, the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It featured in publications like The New York Times, The Guardian, The New Yorker, CNN, Aperture, ARTnews, Paris Review, Financial Times, Le Figaro and American Photo.
