Hi, happy new year. I wanted to start the year by posting these photos created with @kylestrydom_ a few months back. we holed ourselves up in a room on Hiddingh Campus and Kyle literally painted me with a flashlight and long exposure. I wanted to share these images because in them, I see the most fierce form of myself. ⚡️⚡️⚡️ And the thing is, I’m going into this year not being totally okay. Seeing this person standing tall in his monster boots and dressed in archive @alexandermcqueen is a reminder to me of my purpose; what I want to do and create, what I want to achieve not for anyone else but myself. I would like to dedicate this year to the pursuit of my own happiness, rediscovering the possibility of joy after what have been two very tough years. I don’t know what that looks like, I don’t know if I’m completely unafraid to face the inevitable change that will come with this, but I’m sitting here hoping to carry the energy of this person with me as I journey into the year ahead. 🖤🖤🖤 I’ve always served my people before myself, and while I will never stop giving myself to my community, I’m changing the perspective this year and I’m doing it for me. Ive had to deal with a lot of fake shit and posturing in this city, and for so many people it’s got them far or they’ve found ‘success.’ I’ve never played that game, and I refuse to, and sure I may not have what some of my peers do but I know I will receive it when the time is right. I’ve always worn my monstrousness as an armour, and it’s served me by helping me feel strong. Last year, I opened the year with an image of me wearing pretty much nothing; I opened myself to chaos and it was necessary to weather the storm. But now I’m picking up my armour, and I’m putting it back on. I’ve always dreamed of guarding a piece of McQueen, and here I am. The rest is possible, if I allow it to be.
