The truth is often hidden in plain sight. This tip sounds so ridiculously simple that it’s toast to dismiss out of hand, but the day I decided to think like this marked one of the single biggest breakthroughs of my entire career. By the time you hit record your signal chains should be dialed - and if you’re engineering and producing yourself, the moment you go into record has to mark the change from thinking like an engineer to thinking like a producer. Not to say you won’t ride input gain, or keep an ear out incase you need to adjust, but your FOCUS moves entirely into engaging and feeling every nuance of the PEEFORMANCE you are hearing, not what the signal chain is doing.
