Sitting on a pebble beach in Brighton wishing I could be in 🇱🇰 right now. The economic crisis and refusal of government leaders to step down led to protestors storming the presidential secretariat and residence on June 9th. The country is without fuel, and the president and new prime minister are STILL clinging onto power, claiming another state of emergency and using it to bring heavy military presence to protest sites. I am SO PROUD to be Sri Lankan right now and see all the amazing work of people on the ground. My heart is breaking for so many who can’t afford to eat or feed their families. I can’t help but remember how the Sinhala masses have failed the North and East since the end of the war and not given a second though to the heavy military presence and silencing of their protests. I’m praying this will lead to a more unified country shifting AWAY from the racist rhetoric and towards massive political reform but who can tell 🤷🏻‍♀️ #srilankacrisis #srilankaprotests #srilanka
