Full circle.
5 years ago, I drove to Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park for an Insta-meet hosted by Chris Burkard and Jimmy Chin. At the time, I’d only ever seen them in print magazines and on social media. As expected, I was one of many people gathered at this event to meet them.
I walked up to Chris and introduced myself. It was probably one of the weirdest thing I’ve ever done. I didn’t know what to say, but couldn’t resist the urge to introduce myself. I drove back home after the event with the hope that one day I’d get the opportunity to work with Chris Burkard.
Since then, we’ve kept in touch. I’ve worked with him on his small and personal projects in the past few years. Every adventure was a learning experience on how to be a better storyteller and person.
5 years later, I drove back to Glacier Point to shoot Chris Burkard for a cycling project. I arrived an hour prior to our calltime and walked around the area to visualize my shot list. I considered this project just like any project I’d had with him before. But this time around was far more special. I was here to capture Chris in one of his favorite places in the world doing one his favorite things in the world.
Every time I get to share a space with Chris I feel inspired. He motivates me on my journey as a storyteller. He’s a teacher and most importantly, a dear friend. Thank you Chris for the adventures and the friendship we have.
