Nearly 50 years ago, Sacheen Littlefeather took the stage at the Oscars and protested the mistreatment of American Indians at the hands of the film industry. She was met with harassment, racist gestures, and was threatened with arrest and physical assault — but as always, she stood tall. I couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve watched her speech growing up, and how empowering it was. Sacheen’s activism was and is iconic, and has motivated so much of my career. It’s about time that @theacademy offers this apology that Sacheen has so long deserved. #SacheenLittlefeather
