Chiharu Shiota: Two Home Countries @japansociety Read below for how to experience the exhibit for FREE! “Two Home Countries” marks the first solo New York museum exhibition of Berlin-based Japanese artist @ChiharuShiota, renowned for her immersive thread installations that explore emotion, memory, and human connection. The exhibition debuts Diary (2025), a site-specific installation of Shiota’s signature red threads intertwined with wartime diary pages, created to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Also on view is Two Home Countries (2025), which connects two metal house frames and a dress form, forming a striking image of coexistence shaped by Shiota’s life between Japan and Germany. Other works draw from her experiences with ovarian cancer and motherhood, deepening her ongoing exploration of the body as a vessel of memory and meaning.
