Altstadtmarkt square in Braunschweig has been the heart of the city for more than 700 years. Back in the Middle Ages, the city’s main market was held here, as were fairs and public festivals, and it was the venue for equestrian tournaments, parades and processions. Nowadays, the square still hosts a market twice a week that offers a wide selection of fresh regional produce.
