Early last week, the International Association of Fire Fighters began tracking Hurricane Ian, a powerful Category 4 storm that was barreling toward the Southwest Coast of Florida. The hurricane was forecasted to cause unprecedented damage and was on course to impact thousands of our members and their families. Our leadership quickly assessed that we needed to deploy resources to assist IAFF members who would be impacted by this storm. Our Disaster Relief Team was activated on Wednesday, September 28th to support DVP Walt Dix, the 12th District Disaster Go-Team, and our members in the State of Florida. I had the privilege of leading our Disaster Relief Team into the region and I couldn’t be prouder of the men and women that served so selflessly on this mission. This entire experience was extremely humbling but equally rewarding. More importantly, it is another illustration of how the International Association of Fire Fighters does whatever it takes to have our members backs!
