🌈Checking into week two of pride month! Whether you are Queer or not, growing up our authenticity can be sacrificed by fear of prejudice and humiliation from others. My refuge was found in the salon. Working in salons as a teen was a creative outlet to express myself in a world that at times felt limiting. In the salon, I was celebrated for my love of fashion and trends in beauty. And although discovering who I am is an ongoing journey, a big part of it was spent developing relationships with my clients and coworkers who later became my friends; and allies. The 14 year old Mitchell would be proud of where his love for styled hair has taken him and he would be thankful for all those who have cheered him along the way! So much of our adult life is unlearning the restrictive beliefs of the world. It’s never too late to be vulnerable, true to yourself, and to exist loudly! Happy pride month!!🌈 Photo by @collinsnai
