The way she used her gifts to touch the very heart of us. To inspire us. Her talent was timeless and beyond measure. She inspired this little Black girl to dream big. So big. She is one of the voices I listen to whenever I feel like I need to find home in myself. This loss hits in a very tender place. For many of us who are alums of NYC’s High School of Performing Arts/ LaGuardia- the original Fame school- ain’t a school song as legendary as her voice on ours. Her voice on “Fame” beckoned so many of us to come forward as teenagers and enter those hallowed halls with pride. Irene Cara- Thank you for sharing your anointing with us.
