The Palace Theater proudly presents: “I sometimes feel like your imaginary friend” ; a 15 minute short play on instagram. SHOWTIME! 🎭About the insta-play: in February I launched the open call for the second edition of our online virtual theater project, “insta-play”, aimed at creating a community theater experience 100 percent on instagram. The idea is that istagram would serve as both the final stage and the lieu de rencontre (meeting place) as all participants were gathered uniquely from this instagram community. You were the writers, directors, set designers, costume makers and filmmakers on this project as I asked you to get creative and film yourself acting out a scene written from iconic breakup lines shared anonymously by people in this community. The response for this edition was overwhelmingly positive and the end result was edited down from five hours to a 15 minute short play, a collage of doors opening and closing, lost connections, vulnerability, broken hearts and lines that twist the knife performed by an all star cast that I fucking FEEL when they say “have you cried about me?” I know I have cried editing this. I’ve learned yet again through this process that there is so much potential for creatvie collaboration online and you don’t have to live in a big city or be in Art school to create something with someone. The internet can be a cool place sometimes :) Anyway, I’m calling this second edition “I sometimes feel like your imaginary friend” because it’s the line that stuck out to me the most from the play. We all want to be seen in this life and I hope projects like these can make you feel less alone and like you’re apart of the greater creative collective (because, yes, even as an audience member you are a part of this).
