đŸ¶ YOU MIGHT GET IN, BUT YOU WON’T GET OUT đŸ¶ An image of a guard dog is printed on threatening stickers on the back wall of the main gallery. Two dog figurines found by the artist Simeon Barclay stand on shelves. Another work in the show features an empty kennel, implying that a dog might have escaped. Growing up, Barclay was afraid of his childhood next door neighbour’s Alsatian dog. This is one of several references in the exhibition to fear, and systems of control. A tower of blue plastic barrels harks back to the ones used by Barclay’s and other families to send goods from England to the Caribbean. The artist remembers his childhood fear of his father’s threat to put him into one of the barrels. 🔮 Smaller versions of these stickers are also being sold in our shop. Don't forget to drop in to the @southlondongallerybookshop during your visit! ____ Images: Simeon Barclay, In the Name of the Father, South London Gallery, September 2022.
