‘Eternal Cascade’ day 73 of ‘75 Days of Art’ / Creating this image, taken off the coast of Svalbard, was simply about layers. The eye is immediately drawn to the heart of the narrative; the tongue of water pouring from the ice shelf and into the ocean. From there, it follows the curves and patterns in the ice, creating an overall sense of movement and impermanence framed between the sky above and the sea below. There is beauty, mood, depth, and, beneath it all, the story of a vanishing Arctic. However, rather than tell the viewer what is happening in this scene, I let them form their own conclusion revealed in the forces of nature.
