"When I think of Maureen Gallace’s decades long series of small, gorgeously painted land and seascapes I think of the infinity of the visible: how, when we look at natural phenomena they are always different- it’s a rule- and how human structural interventions are sometimes frames, sometimes screens, but always chronological and spatial locators. Maureen (b. 1960) is of a painting-skeptical generation, but she is not a painting skeptic. The tenacity she has shown in her painting life reinforces the belief in the continuing rewards of looking closely over time and with sensitivity and compassion. This magnificent drawing that Maureen has generously parted with, has the dignity of history, of evidence calmly delivered, of good posture and silence when it is called for. Restrained and poised but alive to the duney breezes that ruffle the vegetation. How long has this small structure been on this shore? There are two answers; forever and since Maureen drew it. Thank you, Maureen. I’ve admired you and your work for 30 years and am honored to hang your drawing, even for a day (Sept 27-28) at The Drawing Center." @lhoptman The Drawing Center's Executive Director This work by and more than 80 others will be available to bid on as part of our Benefit Auction.
