In honor of MLK Day, Alpha Phi would like to show how we celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion. Here are some words from our VP of DEI, Lillian Dailey, about the efforts of our chapter: “As a person of color from Long Beach, CA—an area that flourishes with diversity—I knew I wanted to use my passion to make a meaningful impact at Alpha Phi. At our chapter, we are constantly committed to improving ourselves and educating ourselves about the identities and experiences of others. As a chapter, we encourage every member to learn about and support the National Panhellenic Council and the Multicultural Greek Council at Purdue. In participating in campus events, our members have gotten the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with other organizations. Specifically, within the Delta Mu chapter, we have a dedicated DEI committee. This committee includes a position responsible for sharing campus events to help us stay engaged and informed on campus. Also, we have a mental health chair who focuses on initiatives to support mental health and well-being. We firmly believe that nobody should have to face their battles alone. In addition to this, we provide monthly pamphlets for our members to explore new DEI topics. Beyond that, we encourage our members to ask questions and educate themselves independently. Our ultimate goal is to help our members not only learn about other backgrounds and reflect on their own biases but also to stand up against racism and continue their personal growth actively. As Alpha Phis, we believe that everyone deserves to be included, supported, and treated as equals.” 🤍
