It’s been 2 months since Jao Thong moved in with us. Just like every elephant that arrives at PES, he spent the first few days in his shelter, under close supervision of our veterinary assistant Toomtam. During this time, a new mahout tried to befriend him and to gain his trust by providing lots of delicious food. Elephants though are much like humans in the sense that sometimes the chemistry just isn’t there, which is why another mahout – Go – gave it a try and was able to get along with Jao Thong just fine. Shortly after, Jao Thong was able to join his mahout into the sanctuary and is now enjoying forest life to his heart’s content.
