‘Pacific Dance’ day 74 of ‘75 Days of Art’ / Merry Christmas and happy holidays my friends. I’m wishing you all joy in the new year and I hope you will join me in giving thanks to nature for the life, inspiration, and beauty it gives to us 🙏 This piece is all about the bending, rolling, and glassy calm of the surface of the ocean as we traveled 100 miles off the West coast of Vancouver Island. I had to shoot 1/500th of a second or faster to capture that fraction of an instant right before a pair of northern right whale dolphins surfaced to breathe. When the dolphins emerged, the surface lifted with them, and the reflections of the clouds above coalesced, mixing like watercolours in a dream painting. When photographing wildlife, it is important to remember to utilize every aspect of your canvas– the environment, light, color, and even the nature of water.
