Download it at the link in my bio. 📺💻🎥🎬📊 2022 HDR TV Main Findings: Although there remains underrepresentation of BIPOC in key areas, such as leads, writers, directors, & show creators, progress has been made, especially with share of main cast roles. However, Latinx continue to be severely underrepresented and lost further ground in the 2020-2021 season. Lead characters are central to the stories being told throughout the TV season. But most people of color were underrepresented across broadcast, cable, and digital/streaming. Whose stories are being told? There were more creators of color & women creators. But, both remained underrepresented among show creators across each platform type. Further, the uptick in opportunity did not extend to having bigger episodic budgets. Shows created by people of color and women tended to receive small budgets than those created by white men, particularly in the digital arena. 💰TV Bottom Line Findings: Although not as consistent as it was in the previous season, the findings reveal that diverse audiences prefer shows that have diverse representation in their casts AND among their credited writers. TV viewers want to watch scripted shows with authenticity. Overall, the traditionally targeted age demo of 18-49 appears to have a general preference for diverse content. We also discuss how the data is collected and our plans to find ways to examine the other identities, including disability, sexual orientation, & religion that belong to workers & intersect w/ race, ethnicity, & gender, that contribute to the diverse views needed in Hollywood.
