Las Fotos Project is appalled and disappointed with the recent statements made by @cd6nury, @cmgilcedillo and @kdeleon. We stand in solidarity with our Black, AAPI and Indigenous peer organizations who are calling for accountability of the leaders who pledged to support us, but have consequently failed us. It’s unacceptable that our city councilmembers, people in power, would make such blatantly racist remarks. As an organization that calls District 14, under @kdeleon our home, we are embarrassed and frustrated with the representation our community has endured under these “representatives”. We strive to make our community and space safe and welcoming for all; where youth feel respected and affirmed to break cycles of trauma rooted in racism, colorism and homophobia. It’s a shame that these elected officials are not able to serve as role models for our youth. We are calling for the resignation of Nury Martinez, Gil Cedillo and Kevin De Leon.
