We lost our mom this week unexpectedly but peacefully. I have been thinking a lot about her wisdom. She taught me to never do something just because I’m told. To never just blindly trust institutions. To stay away from organized religion. To enjoy drugs occasionally and sex frequently. To never trust the police. To run towards anything that scares me. To find loopholes and break rules wherever possible. To swear liberally. To treat people with respect but ignore all pettiness. That dirty jokes are essential and propriety is boring. To be unabashedly honest in all situations. To avoid small talk. But most of all she taught me how to be a mother. To give my children deep love and respect and enjoy every second of them.
