The Women's Co-operatives in Ghana & Burkina Faso collect only the ripest shea fruit, & only from the ground, so as to not harm the tree. To ensure that, they'll even walk much further afield if needed. This conscientious effort helps the shea trees fulfil their own purpose, which, in turn, supports countless birds and insects in their own crucial roles.
