I see hundreds of patients a year for skin exams and let me tell you, the ones with the higher number of skin cancers are not the ones who use sunscreen and follow sun protective measures. Stop the BS! There is NO MEDICAL EVIDENCE that sunscreen causes skin cancer. There is a lot of evidence that UV rays from the sun and tanning beds do cause skin cancer. Now that we are clear on that part... I understand that some people may worry about using chemical sunscreen. Know that there are all mineral sunscreen options. Also, understand that sunscreen alone isn’t enough protection. It’s important to incorporate other sun protective measures. Seek shade, avoid peak sun hours, use UPF clothing, hats, and sunglasses. Lastly, although sun exposure is the primary cause of skin cancers, it’s not the only cause. Other risk factors include, family history and genetics, increasing age, and a weakened immune system. . . . #spf #sunscreen #skincancerprevention #mythbusters #sciencefacts
