Skin Expert’s Sunscreen Recommendations and Why:
Oily/ Darker Skin: Supergoop’s Unseen SPF 40
Sensitive, acne/rosacea prone: EltaMD UV CLEAR SPF 46
Mature, photodamaged skin: ISIDIN eryfotona actinica SPF 50
Sun is broken into UV-A and UV-B.
UV-A leads to premature aging, wrinkles, loose saggy, leathery skin. UV-B leads to sunburns, skin cancer
Sun also depletes our skin's natural antioxidants which removes a layer of our natural protection against not only sun, but pollution and environmental toxins
So when looking for a sunscreen you want something that protects against UV-A, UV-B, and replenishes the lost antioxidants. All of my recommendations above check these boxes
There are two forms of sunscreens, chemical and mineral. The chemical sunscreens get absorbed into your skin and when the sun's ultraviolet radiation hits, they go through a chemical reaction to turn into heat, which is then expelled from the body. The mineral sunscreen does not get absorbed, they are metals (zinc and titanium) that stay on top of the skin and when the sun's ultraviolet radiation hits, it reflects off these minerals so it doesn't damage the skin.
Chemical is better for oily skin or darker toned skin. Mineral is better for sensitive, acne prone skin.
