I took a break from packing up my apartment of 16 years for a night out to celebrate Harry Belafonte’s 95th birthday @townhallnyc Did you know he was the first artist of any color to sell a million records? Did you know he was the first Black producer in television (and won an Emmy)? I grew up listening and dancing to his music at my family’s and other parties. Mr. B is BIG in Sri Lanka. And he has made the world a better place by gracing it with his presence. I was proud to serve on the host committee and to see @hankwillisthomas receive an inaugural Harry Belafonte Social Justice Award, along with all the honorees I admire. ➡️for photos and videos of the night.
