Posted @withrepost • @aztsos In the early Fall, Flagstaff Seeds of Stewardship took a trip to Marshall Lake. The wildflowers were soaking up some extreme moisture, and the ground was slick. Grey skies brought out the contrasting brilliance of golden flowers and green juniper. Students hiked in good spirits whilst finding their footing on slick trails, and particularly enjoyed finding a perfect rock to scrape mud off shoes. Students explored aspects of tree species, as well as a “meet a tree” activity that involved carefully guiding each other into sensory explorations of trees. From this activity, students reported Ponderosa Pines to smell like everything from fruity cereal to warm vanilla. On our hike back, a student hiking in the front spotted a horny toad and urged all to gather and look. He informed us that seeing one is considered good luck. Photos in order: 1. Class hiking in through flower field 2. Students in “meet a tree activity” 3. Students gathering around wearing provided ponchos We are grateful to be learning on the ancestral lands of the Hopi, Pueblo, Western Apache, Zuni, Hohokam who have stewarded these lands through generations. #atasos #flagstaffoutdooreducation #arizonaoutdoors #aztsos #arizonatrail #outdooreducation #natureeducation #flagstaff #arizonatrailassociation #stewardship #azt #natureconnection #arizona
