🔔 Long Caption Alert 🚨 My papa taught me how to drive one day after dropping our mother off at the airport to vacation back home on La isla 🇵🇷 I was 16. He took me to an empty lot & explained how everything would work & what I was to do if I ever took my road test. At 19, I got behind the wheel again when dog sitting in Madison, NJ simply because I needed groceries for the two weeks I was staying there. I told the owner of the vehicle I had not had my license yet, but she trusted me enough to make my runs if I needed the car. I literally forgot to break before turning into the driveway and shattered the windshield, leaving me too traumatized to drive again. The damage cost me $1,000 and I didn’t get behind the wheel again until 2021. During one COVID night, my partner let me test drive a rental. I drove over a curb, to which he proceeded to tell me to get out because he didn’t trust me with the rental. Understandable, given I was not listed on the insurance. As time progressed of me commuting to & from the city, my desire to own a car got bigger & bigger. I was frustrated with mass transit. I became more sensitive to the energies & noise around me & I wanted to feel safe. So in June 2024, I finally got my permit. Yes, at 31, a New Yorker just got her permit. It was my mission to drive by the following year. A short time after, my best friend @thats_greg4ya took me back to the empty MetLife Stadium lot & let me practice in his car. After 20 min, he trusted me to drive home. This was my first time on a highway (& yes the hazard lights were on). You all made fun of me for sitting too close to the wheel or gripping it too tightly. I’ll never forget that 🙄 A couple of weeks later, I took a baecation to Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard, & on the way back, bae let me drive the rental. It was a Dodge Challenger & I drove an entire hour from MA, through Rhode Island & Connecticut before giving it up because I was tired. (Continued in comments)
