Desert in Bloom Papier-mâché in handcrafted sterling silver pendant. One for the desert lovers. 🌸🌵🌞 . . Arturo has been making papier-mâché pieces for a few decades. For a while he focused on big ornamental masks. He’s offered to make me pieces for jewelry and at first I was hesitant. I told him folks might think they were pre-made pieces I got à la Michaels to set in silver. 😅 He was like—you just have to explain what it is. So I have a new set of papier-mâché pendants. All one of a kind. All created and hand painted by Arturo and his kids. . . Y por cierto, one of the things I appreciate most about Arturo’s way of working is how he’s brought in his 4 youngest children—all in their late teens to early 20s—into his various crafts. Apprenticing in these arts is incredibly low. And way lower for women. So going into his workshop and seeing how his three daughters are developing their crafts is really heartening. . . I support them in continuing their art creations and they support me by creating incredibly unique, finely-crafted pieces to share with you all. 😌🙏🏽🥰 . .
